The number one landscape issue I find on a majority of homes is poor drainage. In a 1" rain storm produces 620 gallons per 1000 square feet. If the foundation soils have settled or were not properly compacted during construction, poor drainage can cause foundation problems. Downspouts are the biggest culprit. When gutters are not present it is important that the dripline drains away from the foundation.
Too often what could be usable space in the backyard for entertaining, accessing doors and windows, painting etc is filled with overgrown, high maintenance 'foundation' plantings. Permeable pavers allow for walkway transitions, outdoor rooms for grilling, bird watching, or sitting by a firepot increasing the functionality of your home.
